Welcome to the Ryukyu Denryu Kyokai (琉球傳流協會) website.

The Ryukyu Denryu Kyokai was founded to bring together martial artists from around the world - practitioners seeking a return to the timeless values of Okinawa's martial heritage. This organization was established with the support of like-minded individuals who had grown disheartened by the politics, high membership costs, and excessive grading fees often found in modern associations.

Led by Adam Carter, 8th dan Hanshi and founder of the Shuri Dojo, the Ryukyu Denryu Kyokai stands as a community dedicated to preserving tradition, fostering camaraderie, and keeping karate's practical essence alive, while upholding the rich heritage and timeless principles of Ryukyu karate. Our association's name - Ryukyu Denryu Kyokai - translates to 'Ryukyu Tradition Association'. This name reflects our commitment to preserving and passing down the knowledge and skills of Okinawa’s martial arts to future generations.

The Ryukyu Denryu Kyokai is a research-driven martial arts organization focused on the preservation and practical evolution of Okinawan fighting arts. We welcome practitioners from all styles of the Ryukyu tradition who share our dedication to understanding and reviving the original intent, principles, and applications passed down by the pioneers of pre-modern Okinawan karate.

Our goal is to preserve the pragmatic roots of these arts, unite like-minded martial artists, and foster new friendships built on shared respect and understanding.
